The global community of Atlantic Fellows exists to tackle the persistent inequities across the globe through collective action and leadership to achieve systems change. The Fellows are courageous, compassionate, and collaborative thinkers and doers, who collectively seek to bring lasting improvements to their communities and the world. As exceptional leaders in their field of work, they each carry a deep resolve for a more equal and just world.
Atlantic Fellows are tackling global, systemic inequities. United in their pursuit of equity, they come from all walks of life and each carries a deep resolve for a more equal and just world.
Their lifelong journey begins with a bespoke program experience to enhance each Fellow’s capacity to counter systemic issues impeding equity. As they connect and collaborate through the global network, they think and learn together, incubating and implementing strategies for greater impact. Accelerated by the Atlantic Institute and community support they become collective agents of change.
Narratives have the ability to change how we see the world and how we move toward change. We work with our community to use narrative to create fairer, healthier and more inclusive societies. We do this by dissolving boundaries and dogmatic beliefs that articulate the inevitability of inequity and work to develop and support those who imagine new alternatives and liberatory futures.
COVID-19 has profoundly changed the way we think and further exposed already glaring inequities. Our ‘normal’ has changed and our imagination draws us to what our (k)new futures might look like. (K)new solutions draw on our longer histories, knowledge, and ways of being, and are made possible by leaps in innovation. We seek to catalyse our community to this (k)new thinking and action.
To foster change, the appropriate policies must be in place at organizational, institutional, local, national and international levels. Our community accelerates this change through its activism; through the arts, organizing, advocacy, legal action, research or from within institutions. To help realize this, Fellows are exposed to cutting edge theory, and practical examples of change from across the world.
The COVID-19 pandemic compelled this young, growing community of Fellows to pivot from their daily work to help alleviate its devastating impact on the already most endangered people in their communities.
More than 50 wide-ranging projects around the world have been funded by the Atlantic Institute to support the Fellows in their work, including the provision of food products, the dissemination of health and educational informational material and research looking at the impacts of COVID-19.
The collective leadership of the global community provides a pathway to addressing inequities, something which requires a new and transformative response.
The community does this by harnessing local knowledge, experience and innovation; by contextualizing specific needs and approaches; by hearing and recognizing diverse voices equally, and by connecting across geographies, cultures, and areas of expertise around a shared vision and values.
Through this, the community challenges and changes narratives and policies to create fairer, healthier and more inclusive societies. Fellows accelerate impact by taking many small elegant steps together, which culminate in the disruption of the inequities of the status quo – a revolution for equity.
The Atlantic Institute recognizes that this work of the global community is vital and lifelong, and invests intentionally in building a community of resonance and inclusion, resulting in forms of collaboration that, but for this community, might not have occurred.
Once Fellows graduate from one of the seven global programs, the Atlantic Institute, based in Oxford, UK provides them with the networks, architecture and resources to connect, learn and act to address the underlying systemic causes of inequity – locally and globally. This helps them to connect with each other, beyond individual programs, so that they might collaborate across disciplines and distances to tackle inequities.
The Atlantic Institute supports collaboration across the seven Atlantic Fellows programs leading to outcomes greater than any single individual, or program, could achieve alone. In particular we work with Atlantic Fellows Program staff and recently graduated Fellows who are joining the global Atlantic community.
The Institute invests intentionally in building a community of resonance and inclusion, resulting in a form of collaboration that, but for this community, might not have occurred.
