Executive summary

The Atlantic Institute's five-year strategy (2026-2031)

A decade after its establishment, the Institute has earned respect for its commitment to equity and its capacity to convene a diverse, transdisciplinary global community of leaders. Our in-person convenings, virtual engagements, the Extended Realities Lab and the Atlantic Fellows Residence, Kopanong, have nurtured belonging, strengthened trust, and sparked curiosity and collaboration across geographies.

Over the next five years, the Institute will evolve from an event-centered way of working to an intentional, reciprocal and networked operating model. We will develop clear pathways for Fellows to engage across cohorts and geographies, contribute to each other’s development, and collaborate across Atlantic Fellows programs in ways that lead to sustained action and impact.
Lifelong Fellowship

Our Three Strategic Pillars

To fulfil our strategic intent and ensure that we do the work of lifelong Fellowship well, the Institute’s activities will be organized around three interconnected strategic pillars.
Global connectivity

Maintaining the relational infrastructure that enables Atlantic Fellows to belong, collaborate and act collectively. This involves both community building and nurturing external partnerships. The desired outcome is for Atlantic Fellows to operate as a globally connected leadership community across regions and sectors.

Knowledge exchange

Building knowledge infrastructure that positions Fellows and the programs as co-creators and collaborators.  This involves cross-program engagement, knowledge infrastructure development and thought leadership and public narrative.  The desired outcome is for Atlantic Fellows and programs to be recognized as co-creators of knowledge.

Stewardship excellence

Ensuring that the Atlantic Institute is governed effectively to fulfil its mandate as connective tissue for the Atlantic Fellows community.  The desired outcome is for the Institute to operate with a well-equipped team and effective governance, ensuring the integrity of the Fellowship ecosystem.
